Earlier this month, Temple Shalom, in partnership with Heading Home, Inc., lived out our Jewish value of tikkun olam, striving to leave the world a little more whole than it was the day before. Different synagogue groups and individuals came together to raise funds and find donations to fully equip a two-bedroom apartment for a family of three. This family had been a part of the Heading Home shelter system, and this apartment is one of many steps they have taken to end their cycle of homelessness.
This project has been an incredible experience for our community. Kol Ha-Kavod to John Solon and Amy Stein, chairs of our Social Action committee, who coordinated this entire effort. Thanks to the synagogue board, to the sisterhood, and to our youth for coming together to take responsibility for different rooms in the apartment. And, thank you to all the individuals and families who made donations–in kind and in dollars–enabling us to make this project a success.
Jodie Cutter was there the day of the move in, and she put together this video of the experience. Enjoy!
